P ropylene glycol is a synthetic liquid substance that absorbs water. P ropylene glycol is also used to make polyester compounds, and as a base for deicing solutions. P ropylene glycol is used by the chemical, food,  as an antifreeze when leakage might lead to contact with food.  It is used to absorb extra water and maintain moisture ,cosmetics, or food products. It is a solvent for food colors and flavors, and in the paint and plastics industries. P ropylene glycol is also used to create artificial smoke or fog used in fire-fighting training and in theatrical productions. Other names for p ropylene glycol are 1,2-dihydroxypropane, 1,2-propanediol, methyl glycol, and trimethyl glycol. P ropylene glycol is clear, colorless, slightly syrupy liquid at room temperature. It may exist in air in the vapor form, although p ropylene glycol must be heated or briskly shaken to produce a vapor. P ropylene glycol is practically odorless and tasteless.

P ropylene glycol is used for similar applications as other glycols.
P ropylene glycol is an important raw material for unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, and polyurethane resin. The use amount in this area accounts for about 45% of the total consumption of p ropylene glycol. Such unsaturated polyester is used extensively for reinforced plastics and surface coatings. P ropylene glycol is excellent in viscosity and hygroscopicity and is non-toxic, and thus is widely used as hygroscopic agent, antifreeze, lubricants and solvents in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. In the food industry, p ropylene glycol reacts with fatty acid to give p ropylene ester of fatty acids, and is mainly used as food emulsifier; P ropylene glycol is a good solvent for flavorings and pigments. P ropylene glycol is commonly used as solvents, softeners and excipients, etc. in the pharmaceutical industry for the manufacture of various types of ointments and salves. P ropylene glycol is also used as a solvent and a softener for cosmetic since it has good mutual solubility with various spices. P ropylene glycol is also used as tobacco moisturizing agents, antifungal agents, food processing equipment lubricants and solvents for food marking ink. Aqueous solution of p ropylene glycol is an effective anti-freeze agent.
